What does it mean to be in-network with insurance? And what does out-of-network mean?
Our healthcare system can be super confusing with lots of terms that nobody explains.
Basically, being "in-network" means that that provider has a contract with a specific insurance company. Your insurance plan likely has different coverage for in-network vs out-of-network providers.
In the event that I am out-of-network, but you'd still like to use your benefits, I can provide you with a "Superbill" (it sounds fun, but it's basically just a receipt of our session) that you submit to your insurance company and they reimburse you according to your policy. (You would need to contact your insurance company directly to find out what this amounts to.)
What does LMHC mean?
LMHC stands for Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Similar licenses can be called different things depending on geographical location (ex. LCMHC, LPC, CPC), but it basically means that I am have met all requirements to independently practice therapy in the state of Massachusetts.
If you're still curious, here's more info about the process.
